The SWOT Analysis is a great process for any organization (or even to use for your individual leadership). The purpose of a a SWOT Analysis is to gauge our Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats. With that said, I never cared much for the standard quadrant table for a SWOT (strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, threats) Analysis. I’ve seen many groups confuse the quadrants and list redundant items (like strengths that really should be opportunities). So, I recreated the SWOT table to visually show that strengths and weaknesses are INTERNAL; and opportunities and Threats are EXTERNAL. It’s a great way to help focus discussion in each area and with the correct context. Feel free to use this simplified diagram I developed.
